Drawing on over 20 years of experience as an educator in K-12 schools in the U.S and internationally, Dr. Douglas understands the significance and needs of great teachers and school leaders. As a professor of educational leadership and policy, he has taught new and veteran teachers, school principals, and superintendents. He has founded a GED community school, served as a middle and high school English teacher, led government summer enrichment programs for youth and families, and founded community organizations focused on urban communities. Students of all backgrounds connect with Dr. Douglas. His story of overcoming the low expectations of a high school guidance counselor who described him as an “average student of average academic ability” is inspiring to students, teachers and administrators who can see in him that finishing high school and earning a college or doctorate degree is possible for those with humble beginnings.

From high school to college, professional to retired, Dr. Douglas has emerged as an athlete whisperer who helps athletes to effectively transition and manage the realities of life on and off the field or court. As a former soccer player, he understands the competitive edge of the modern athlete. As a sport administrator, he is able to communicate key principles for success in the academic and business aspects of athletics. He has interviewed over 100 athletes in the U.S, Caribbean, and South Africa and directed a documentary on female Olympic hopefuls. He has particular expertise in the journeys of Black male athletes. These experiences have provided Dr. Douglas with unique insights on the transitions and needs of athletes and the families and coaches who support them. He has also earned a certification in Athlete Development from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Whether it is a study abroad staff or the executive cabinet of a university or professional organization, Dr. Douglas provides tailored messages, grounded in cutting-edge research. He has also earned a certification from the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education Standards for Professional Practice Institute.
